Have a free listen to the new Eno • Hyde: High Life. #Eno  #FT I bought this earlier today and if you are (wise enough to be) on G+ and in one of my circles you can have a play for free. It's good and funky.. grooves and glitches... quite 79/80/81 Talking Headsy (which is a very good thing). See also:  http://warp.net/records/releases/enohyde/high-life "Anyone with whom you share this music will receive one free full play. If you share to Public, people who aren't in your circles will receive only a sample." Happy to add you to a circle if I know you and you're nice :) https://play.google.com/music/playpreview?preview=AE9vGKqHaUE7JIKgpy4dAB8sFW-O1z0QBeEt56eHtTDA9IKB2CI67YZWwt__IURzrUa0xatAEtDbb6EGnL38A6VHmwsZ1I5LD4QBHMheUK_w54W53UbtFxeBs4cmbViO-yx5kV6f7hJunQP6UiywoZqC4VJHz7MV2XX1FfimhW3npqXazU0ATus%3D

"Are you a vet?" :D

"Are you a vet?"  :D A German tourist jumped into the freezing water and saved a woman's precious little dog. Upon getting back on the pier, he checked out her puppy. And told her, "Ze dog is ok. He vill be fine." Due to his selfless heroic act, she asked, "Are you a vet?" He replied, "Vet? I'm fuken soaked!" LOL! [edited from Concepcion De Vera's/Kune's e-mail]

How to wrest control of our data from spies and their networks #FT http://gu.com/p/3qf44 Excellent article, particularly the 'analogue mindsets' point. I think it's important to distinguish between: Private Corps & Govs. I.e. with Google we make an agreement & they provide excellent tools/dashboards to enable us to control & manage (to an extent) that relationship & the information we disclose. This transparency & operation within the law provides us with the ability to judge the 'cost vs utility provided' & whether to use the service. Of course other companies don't live up to Google's standards (transparency, user control) OR provide such great value (e.g. Google Now, personalised search) & are not as worthy of our trust. Govt agencies covertly recording information without meaningful oversight & control by parliament is an entirely different scale of problem. There's no dashboard, transparency or opt-outs. I've noticed I've attracted quite a lot (for me, here) of new followers/circlers in the last several days (quite a lot means a dozen or two) - mainly people I have no connection with. Some of them are "marketing types" (YAY! Exciting! etc.)  and others are a biit more random. Not complaining, not concerned. Just feels a bit odd/inexplicable?

Climate change: historians will look back and ask 'why didn't they act?' #FT http://gu.com/p/3pgv4 I've been asking (myself) this question for the last several years. I felt like I was 'late to it' (Climate Change, Resource Depletion, Ecological overshoot). And yet actually, sadly I'm not. The oncoming disaster, which is becoming less possible to avoid as the years slip by, just isn't important to most people. It's nowhere on the list of 'issues' our elections are fought over. It should be central to EVERYTHING we plan & do. But it isn't. I think it never will be. Perhaps it will be a great life (sustainable, hi-tec, more equal?) for one or two billion people (left) in a century or two's time. Maybe that's 'good enough'? Arguably a success for our species. Nature having dealt with our overreaching for us? Perhaps people (like me?) who would prefer us to try and look ahead, plan & manage (to an extent) our species f...

Hi, What's the intended latency/lag for published/new podcasts to show up within PFM.

Hi, What's the intended latency/lag for published/new podcasts to show up within PFM. Here's an example: The Chrome Show from GigaOm https://player.fm/series/gigaom-chrome-show/ Was published 9 hours ago but is not yet available on PFM/my Channel here:  https://player.fm/series/gigaom-chrome-show/ Not a complaint - more a query :) Feedback: I appreciate beta status and the PFM cloud based model & caching of podcasts (right?).  However if a topical/news based podcast is not available (via PFM) several hours it's hit the Interwebz then that's too long a delay. i.e. I just used another (my previous) podcast app to grab it for a drive I have coming up. I'd rather stay in PFM.. but I have to leave now!  :)

Hi

Hi, I recently discovered PFM and I like the cloud-centric approach as well as the general UI/UX. I used to use Google Listen - which whilst only half-developed was good enough and the attraction was the ability to manage in the cloud (not on a single device). I recognise that PFM excels here. *Note: I have android devices + web. A major reason for me to not adopt it is the inability to define specific podcasts to download. This is part of my own practice/use-case so I'll explain it here. It may well be that I'm not the kind of user that's suited to PFM, or it may be that my usage can evolve :)   or maybe PFM could see my comments as an enhancement erquest (can we say "Premium feature" ?). So...: I like to:  - add many podcasts to my lists to track/follow  - Some are A-list/always/must-haves I always download  - others are selective - depends on content, my listening availability e.g. if I have a work trip involving 2x 4hr car journeys I'll need more podcasts ...

Do Apple's customers really still believe this stuff? #WWDC #FT

Do Apple's customers really still believe this stuff?  #WWDC   #FT   "Apple engineers platforms, devices and services together. We do this so we can create a seamless experience for our users that is unparalleled in the industry. This is something only Apple can do." Do the positive reinforcement messages keep working without Jobs' Reality Distortion Field? Is the field still in place and degrading slowly over time? The devices are lovely if you have the budget. But I fund the restrictions of the platform a deal breaker and I don't understand the attraction of the iCloud services vs the competition. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jun/02/wwdc-2014-apple-ios-8-mac-os-1010-san-francisco-live
