Just caught up with this #Bowie article in the LRB. Some great writing & recollections on Bowie by Ian Penman as he reviews some of the years biogs. He's a bit off on the mid/late era tho ;) http://www.lrb.co.uk/v39/n01/ian-penman/wham-bang-teatime

Philip Glass on David #Bowie: 'He was a master unto himself'

Philip Glass on David #Bowie : 'He was a master unto himself' Interesting: Soon after its composition he began using the Heroes symphony for his walk-in music for some of his concerts. And, even more surprising, is that there’s a version around in which he superimposed his voice singing Heroes on to the symphonic recording. Somewhere in his archive there’s that recording – of David Bowie singing his own version of Heroes over my symphony. It would be amazing to find it. http://gu.com/p/4my4j?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Google%2B http://gu.com/p/4my4j?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Google%2B

Dollar Days - David #Bowie: Missing the Starman

Dollar Days - David #Bowie : Missing the Starman I've not listened to any of ★ for a few months and not much Bowie either. Found myself humming the lines about evergreens from Dollar Days this morning and gave it a play. It's such a poignant song. Those #Grammy Performances: Kendrick channels the spirit of #Bowie while #GaGa reduces his songs and imagery to Karaoke for XFactor viewers

Those #Grammy Performances: Kendrick channels the spirit of #Bowie while #GaGa reduces his songs and imagery to Karaoke for XFactor viewers Halfway through the GaGa I had an epiphany... This (the Lady GaGa performance) encapsulates what non-Bowie fans (in many cases actually non-music fans) think of David Bowie. "Weird & strange" with some good tunes and funny costumes. Which is fine, of course :) On the recommendation of others (and the hints that DB & Visconti were fans/influenced when making ★) I've listened to and been impressed by Kendrick Lamar. He's the real deal. Blending sounds and influences (as in the introduction to the video) I find him much closer to an artist like Bowie in spirit and application. Kendrik here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHMdR8fK-88 GaGa here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fGBZhsa4VU Warning includes an Intel Marketing splash which uses the term "... another level". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHMdR8fK-...

Bowie's ★ Sax player Donny McCaslin (@dmccee) speaks. #Bowie #Blackstar

Bowie's ★ Sax player Donny McCaslin (@dmccee) speaks. #Bowie #Blackstar He'd understandably gone quiet on Twitter but I just had another look and found a brief quote:  "When the album was released on Jan. 8, critical praise was immediate. But elation turned to devastation just three days later, when news of Bowie’s passing broke in the early hours of Jan. 11. McCaslin heard when a BBC journalist called him at 4 a.m. “The last week and a half has been like no other; it’s been a bipolar experience,” he admits." http://nypost.com/2016/01/22/donny-mccaslin-remembers-the-last-time-he-saw-david-bowie-alive/ Also a nice statement on his website: "It was in many ways a dream come true although I'm not sure I could have dreamed of such a thing. And now I'm equal parts sad and grateful for everything that has happened. David Bowie was an inspiration to work with and Blackstar is a testament to the time Mark Guiliana, Tim Lefevbre, Jason Lindner, Ben Monder, and I ...

The davidbowie.com website homepage is an infinitely scrolling thing of beauty. @DavidBowieReal #Bowie http://www.davidbowie.com/ It's rare these days we go to a website's homepage as we tend to land on a specific page directed from a social media post. But DB's homepage is worth a visit as it's a lovely infinitely scrolling set of images and really well done.

Teenage Anthems Ahoy: The boy will become a teenager on Monday. #Bowie

Teenage Anthems Ahoy: The boy will become a teenager on Monday. #Bowie   Revisiting Teenage Wildlife, here's a nice live version from 95 with Reeves deputising strongly for Fripp it's pretty solid - faithful to the original yet sounding fresh and an interesting outro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU1TXeYUqH4 Well, how come you only want tomorrow? /  With its promise of something hard to do / A real-life adventure / Worth more than pieces of gold "It's also one that I find fulfilling to sing onstage. It has some nice interesting sections to it that can trip you up, always a good kind of obstacle to contend with live. Ironically, the lyric is something about taking a short view of life, not looking too far ahead and not predicting the oncoming hard knocks. The lyric might have been a note to a younger brother or my own adolescent self." http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=12073 https://www.youtube.com/attribution_link?a=f6GxO0Va-pg&u=/watch?v%3DsU1TXeYU...
