Syria: 3 Good Explainer videos & some reality. QUESTION: What number of refugees would you welcome to the EU and UK & provide a proper life for? The number of people displaced by the Syrian civil war is over 4m. As the second video (from July) stated "this is the end of the beginning... it will get worse". The current media stories about migrants/refugees making it to Western Europe are about a few thousands of people. I'm in favour of helping refugees & I find our (UK) government's stance on this shameful but unsurprising, I think it represents the values of those who voted for this govt. However... when you understand the numbers involved you realise helping even 100,000 or 200,000 people is still a tiny proportion of those affected. As the third video explains it is our (EU, UK) policy to STOP people claiming asylum, to make it impossible in fact. Windoze! Been "Shutting down..." for about 30 mins now. I think it's doing an update. Who knows? I run Linux (ubuntu) as my main OS but occasionally still have to use Windows... so am checking it's upto-date & ok (ready for tomorrow). Sigh... how long do I wait before I power-cycle it?
