Now kids can learn to code... at home!

You’ve probably seen my many posts about +Tynker, the Silicon Valley startup where my son Kevin Elgan works: http://goo.gl/EITGbW

Tynker enables kids to have fun making computer games, animated stories, smarphone apps and music -- and other fun stuff -- while at the same time learning programming skills and computational thinking. 

The Tynker product has been available only for schools -- and teachers and students are really loving it. 

Each time I’ve posted about Tynker, I’ve been flooded with requests from parents asking: “When can I get this for use at home?”

The answer is: Today!

Tynker is announcing today Tynker for Home, as well as an accompanying course called Introduction to Programming -- a self-paced, interactive learning system designed for children in grades 4 - 8 that costs $50. (Tynker is free to those who sign up for the course.)

It also has all kinds of email-based links, updates and notifications to parents so they can stay involved in their child’s progress. 

It comes with game design tools, a character gallery and a multi-media library, with more than 5,000 sounds, animations, images and scenes.

Tynker is like LEGO, but software. Kids can build anything, have fun doing it, then share those creations with all their friends. 

How cool is that? 

Anyway, I'm very proud of my son Kevin for his incredible work at this amazing company, and would also like to congratulate the co-founders CEO Krishna Vedati, CTO Srini Mandyam and Chief Architect Kelvin Chong, as well as the entire Tynker team.
