Lloyd Cole & The Leopards #FT

Lloyd Cole & The Leopards #FT

The Sage - Tuesday 28th January

Really enjoyed it last night. Great venue & a good audience, strong set weaving the old(er) & new(er) together with a mix of the better & the less well known. The band with 3 guitars, drums/bass/keys were able to do justice to the material with faithful yet interesting arrangements of songs (at no point díd it sound like a tribute act) and it was a great showcase for just how well written/crafted LC's songs are.
Lloyd was charmingly understated in his between song chat, warming up as the night progressed & I think as we showed our appreciation eg "You're not getting any younger, either".
I was also impressed (maybe it's just 'his job' , but still) how he remembered all the lyrics with no notes! Strong vocal performance too.
Many of the songs I hoped for (eg 'No Blue Skies', Like Lovers Do', Myrtle & Rose') amongst the more obvious/expected ones. Would have liked to hear the Leopards playing 'California Earthquake'.

Very enjoyable & so glad I got there. Would be nice to think that this size venue & audience are able to generate sufficient revenue to make similar 'mini-tours' viable in the future.
if you get the chance you should catch this band in action.
