Lovely dissection of the latest Transformers (& it's reprehensible director) by Kermode. Worth 7 minutes of your time for the Spinal Tap references alone.
When Charlie Adams was younger I used to watch Transformers (Cybertron - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_Cybertron) & I was converted (despite the whole thing being one long advert for toys) by the story, characters & Shakespeare-ian themes (Leaders, honour, betrayal, loyalty, friendship, sacrifice, growth/change) - along with the fighting-robots!
A film series made with similar quality & great FX could have been really good. Instead it's been trashed by the dumbest of the dumb Hollywood can offer.
Shame on them.
