Catching Up with the Faces

Catching Up with the Faces

I watched the BBC4 Imagine doc: "Rod Stewart: Can't Stop Me Now" on Friday.

It was a nicely made retrospective by Alan Yentob gaining good access to His Rodness and lots of nice archive footage. Whilst it was obviously sympathetic to The Rodster it never felt cloying.
He came across as reasonably human and likeable despite being Rod Stewart and the women and all that.
Kinda makes one nostalgic for proper "rock'n'roll behaviour" from genuinely roguish boys-on-tour
e.g. moving all the hotel room furniture/fittings in the corridor and sitting around... perhaps Rod was a secret Situationist (despite his 80s T-Shirt)

Clearly the "good stuff" was with The Faces in the earlier days of his career.
Despite urging from my mate Raymond Gorman I've neglected The Faces so I've been listening to some over the weekend.
They really had a great sound (didn't they) - that mix of clean/tight and simultaneously dirty enough.
Is Ronnie Wood one of the great guitarists?

And of course - any excuse to show the Kenny Everett sketch - seems to get funnier over the years (genius).
