Halfway through the GaGa I had an epiphany...
This (the Lady GaGa performance) encapsulates what non-Bowie fans (in many cases actually non-music fans) think of David Bowie.
"Weird & strange" with some good tunes and funny costumes.
Which is fine, of course :)
On the recommendation of others (and the hints that DB & Visconti were fans/influenced when making ★) I've listened to and been impressed by Kendrick Lamar.
He's the real deal. Blending sounds and influences (as in the introduction to the video) I find him much closer to an artist like Bowie in spirit and application.

Warning includes an Intel Marketing splash which uses the term "... another level".
