Any Crouton users here?

My Chromebook
Pixel 2
Version 62.0.3198.0 (Official Build) dev (64-bit)

failed to boot via crouton into XFCE this morning.
Some quick searching led me to the link provided.

It appears that something changed in ChromeOS which has b0rked Crouton.
There's a workaround in that thread (bit tricky) and see my post asking for guidance.

Anyone else experienced this?
Any wisdom to share?
